Thomas W. Wagstaff

Tom Wagstaff is a founding partner of Wagstaff & Cartmell LLP. He received his undergraduate degree in 1968 from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. He received his J.D. degree in 1972 from the University of Kansas School of Law. Upon graduation, Tom became associated with the law firm of Blackwell Sanders Matheny Weary & Lombardi where he later became a partner and practiced law for 25 years.

In 1997, Tom and his partner Tom Cartmell, formed the firm of Wagstaff & Cartmell LLP where he has been practicing ever since. Tom has practiced in the area of civil trial work with an emphasis on medical malpractice, products liability and business litigation. Over the course of his career, Tom has tried over 100 cases to a verdict.

Tom is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, has an AV rating with Martindale Hubbell and is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). He is currently President-Elect of the Western Missouri and Kansas Chapter of ABOTA. He has frequently participated in ABOTA's Masters in Law Program. He is a frequent speaker at seminars in Missouri and Kansas on trial techniques and discovery strategy. Tom has been selected for inclusion in the Best Lawyers in America 2002-2007 for his work in personal injury litigation. He has also been selected as one of "The Best of the Bar" in civil litigation by members of the local Bar.

Tom has served on the Board of Directors of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association. Tom has been active in many community affairs having served on the Board of the Heart of America Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the Crippled Children=s Nursery School. He is currently on the Board of Directors of Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City and Saint Luke's Health System, currently serving as President and Chairman, respectively.
