Eric D. Barton
Eric D. Barton, a partner at Wagstaff & Cartmell, has substantial lead counsel experience in medical malpractice, product liability, employment, intellectual property, and insurance cases. He has successfully tried numerous cases to juries, most of which have involved damages claims greater than one million dollars.
Eric earned his law degree from the University of Kansas where he was an editor of the Law Review, a Rice Scholar, moot court team member, Order of the Coif, and won a faculty award for outstanding achievement. He then served judicial clerkships for Judge Stephen Anderson of the U.S. Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, and for Justice Fred Six of the Kansas Supreme Court before entering private practice. Along with an active litigation practice since 1995, Eric frequently teaches first-year and third-year courses in writing and in trial advocacy at the University of Kansas School of Law. He also appears occasionally as a contributing writer in the Manhattan Mercury newspaper.
Eric serves on the Board of Directors of the Lawyers Association of Kansas City (LAKC) and belongs to the Defense Research Institute (DRI). He and his wife, Jennifer, also an attorney, recently co-chaired the 25th Annual Valentine Gala, a charity fundraiser for Sunflower House, a child abuse prevention center. They have two children and live in Lawrence, Kansas.
