Wagstaff & Cartmell has a national practice representing individuals injured by prescription drugs and by medical devices that have caused them harm. In 2008, Wagstaff & Cartmell was one of a small number of firms in the United States with a lead role in negotiating and securing an $894 million settlement from Pfizer, Inc., on behalf of thousands of individuals across the United States who had taken the anti-inflammatory medicines Bextra and Celebrex, manufactured by Pfizer. Tom Cartmell was a member of the national Plaintiff's Steering Committee in the Bextra/Celebrex Multi-District Litigation, and he was a part of the trial team that was set to take the first Bextra case to trial against Pfizer in May of 2008, which prompted the first round of settlements.
